What Would Happen Without You?

Consider this question when you’re struggling to think of accomplishments.

What would your company or business be like without you? There are two ways to think of the answer:

  1. How did you change the state things from what they were back when you started working?

  2. What would happen going forward if you left and were not replaced?

The latter can be thought of as the “default state” as it’s what will happen absent your presence and intervention.

Answers to these questions can help you come up with a better, clearer message about the value you add. The answers inevitably tell a story of results, and that’s what prospective employers, customers and partners really want to know — the results you deliver. ◼︎
